Scope and Content Belgrave Crescent, Dean, Edinburgh Belgrave Crescent was designed by John Chesser in 1874 as part of a new housing development on the Dean estate. It was built in an impressive position on high ground to the south of Queensferry Road. The three-storeyed terrace, with a row of dormer windows forming an extra attic storey, has a splendid outlook over its own private gardens to the south, which slope down towards Dean Village and the Water of Leith in the valley below. Belgrave Crescent was built near to the site of the original Dean village, where the home farm for the Dean estate, and a collection of small thatched cottages for carters and quarrymen at Craigleith Quarry, once stood at the head of Dean Path.
