Scope and Content The former Rosebank Cottage, No 18 St Bernard's Row, Stockbridge, Edinburgh St Bernard's Row was the name given c.1817 to a terrace of new houses built along the west side of an old road which led along the Water of Leith to a ford, and then across the river to Canonmills. This early 19th-century villa, standing well back from the street in a large front garden of lawns and shrubs, is rubble-built, and has tripartite windows on the ground floor. Rosebank Cottage, built by a 'Mr Johnston, wright', was first advertised for sale with a 'flower plot in front, small garden at the rear' in 1807. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
