Scope and Content Power station, Fettykill Paper Mill, Leslie, Fife Fettykill Paper Mill was founded in 1848 as Levenbank Mill, and was taken over in 1859 by Smith, Anderson and Co, its present owners, and renamed. It was sited beside the river Leven to take water from a lade from Loch Leven parallel to the river. This view shows one of the two main turbines, with the flume carrying water to it on the left, and the casing of its generator on the right. The mechanism on the end of the turbine controls vanes in the casing which alter the flow of water to the rotor. Leslie remains an important centre for the paper industry in Scotland largely because of the ready availability of pure water from the Leven lade. This mill is still owned by Smith, Anderson and Co.
