Scope and Content Sketch of the dining-room floor, No 3 Moray Place, Edinburgh, as described in William Trotter's furniture estimate of 1826 Moray Place, designed in 1822 by the architect, James Gillespie Graham as the huge polygonal showpiece of his new housing development on the Earl of Moray's estate, had the grandest late Georgian townhouses in Edinburgh. The narrow lobby allowed increased width for the dining room at the front of the street floor of the house. The family bedroom and dressing room were squeezed in at the back, and the parlour could double for extra dining accommodation when required. Many townhouses were built by speculative builders and let on short leases. The cabinetmaker and upholsterer, William Trotter, who acted as the most important house agent in the city from his premises at No 8 Princes Street, would also hire furniture.
