Scope and Content No 30 Moray Place, Edinburgh Moray Place, designed in 1822 by the architect, James Gillespie Graham as the huge polygonal showpiece of his new housing development on the Earl of Moray's estate, had the grandest late Georgian townhouses in Edinburgh. This three-storeyed townhouse has elongated first-floor windows with cornices above, and balconets bearing Classical anthemion and palmette motifs. The ground floor is rusticated, and attached to the street railings is an elegant gas lamp standard. The general arrangement of Georgian townhouses was standard, with the drawing room on the first floor, a dining room on the street floor, and bedrooms over the drawing room. The kitchen and other service rooms were in the basement. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
