Scope and Content Rear view of No 41 Albany Street, Edinburgh from the cross-lane Albany Street, a pleasant street built with rows of two-storeyed houses divided by a cross-lane, runs west into Abercromby Place. Feuing began in 1801, probably to William Sibbald's design, but the north-west part by Thomas Bonnar was built later in 1815. The rear wall of No 41, in the end pavilion to the east of the cross-lane on the south side, is of rough stone, in contrast to the smooth ashlar finish of the front, and partly forms a semicircular extension. The windows have their original sash-frames. The dining-room floor (ground) and the drawing-room floor (first) are rounded at the rear, forming part of a semicircular extension of the rear wall of the house, and allowing extra room for entertaining large parties, and holding dances.
