Scope and Content Victoria Saw Mills, Torry, Aberdeen This sawmill specialised in the manufacture of wooden fish boxes, which were used in large numbers in the white fish trade, in which Aberdeen had a dominant role for many years. The works was originally steam-powered. This view shows the front of the mills, which were of very basic construction. Torry expanded rapidly from the early 1890s, and its industrial buildings were usually put up cheaply, as here. This works belonged to James Cordiner and Son Ltd, who also owned country sawmills, probably in part to supply wood for this works. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
