Scope and Content Tollhouse, Dunkeld Bridge, Perthshire This tollhouse was built at the south end of Dunkeld Bridge to collect tolls from users of the bridge. The bridge was designed by Thomas Telford, and it is likely that the tollhouse was also designed in his office. This view shows the tollhouse from the west. It has a basement. The style is vaguely Tudor. Note the lattice-paned windows, and the prominent bay, which is more extensively glazed than usual in a building of this type. Tolls on Scottish Roads and bridges were abolished in the 1880s, but as tollhouses were generally well-built most of them remained in use as dwelling houses, as in this case.
