Scope and Content Templetons' Carpet Factory, Templeton Street and Glasgow Green, Glasgow This polychrome brick factory was built in Venetian Gothic style to satisfy Glasgow Town Council's wish for a building of undoubted quality. The façade was designed by William Leiper, and the steel framed interior by JB Harvey. This view shows the building from the south west. The model for the upper part of the building was the Doge's Palace in Venice, but is executed in glazed and terra-cotta brick, with red sandstone details. Floor levels do not match the windows on this face This factory was built to make spool Axminster carpets, an American invention. Part of the façade blew down while under construction, killing several girls working in the weaving sheds to the rear. The building now contains offices. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
