Scope and Content Domestic Finishing Mill, Anchor Mills, Paisley, Renfrewshire This large brick mill was part of the Anchor thread mills, founded 1812 by J and J Clark. This mill was built after the firm amalgamated with J and P Coats to form the largest sewing thread company in the world. This view shows the mill from the south west. To the right is the stair tower. This mill was designed by WJ Morley of Bradford, a leading mill designer. It was the most conspicuous building in the complex, hence the monumental treatment. Most of the Anchor Mills have been demolished, but this block survives, though disused since the early 1980s. The Phoenix Trust, a national building preservation trust, has plans to convert it to flats and offices. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
