Scope and Content Canal offices and workshops, Applecross Street, Glasgow This was from an early date the workshops for the Forth and Clyde Canal, and after the canal offices left North Speirs Wharf they came here too. By the 1970s they were the Scottish headquarters for British Waterways Board. This view shows the complex from the south east. The buildings seen here probably date from the early 19th century, though they were modified in the inter-war period. They are sited on the north side of the Old Basin, first Glasgow terminus of the canal. The offices of British Waterways have now moved into a new building to the right of this range. The wharf in front of these offices is now used as a safe mooring for a number of boats including a community barge. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
