Scope and Content Glasgow Rubber Works, Shuna Street, Ruchill, Glasgow This complex was built from 1876 by George McLellan and Co, india rubber, asbestos and waterproof manufacturers. This was a large complex, much of it built between 1895 and 1914, largely designed by George Simpson, architect. This view shows the tallest of the buildings, obviously intended to impress when seen from the canal. and resembling much civic building of the period. The works had its own wharf on the canal. By the 1970s McLellans had not made asbestos products for many years, but were still making india-rubber goods. A subsidiary works was making waterproof clothing.
