Date 1977

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 510179

Scope and Content Offices, Abbey Brewery, Holyrood Road, Edinburgh This brewery was separated from the Holyrood Brewery by Queensberry House and its garden. Rebuilding of the brewery began in the 1930s, but after the war the site was used as offices by William Younger and Co and its successor companies. This view shows the 1903 offices from the south west. Masonry frontage and baronial/renaissance architectural treatment was a consequence of the situation of the building, close to Holyrood Park and the Palace of Holyroodhouse. This site was sold to the Scottish Office in 1997 as part of the site of the new Scottish Parliament building. All the buildings on the site have been demolished and retention works completed.
