Scope and Content Herriot Hill Stationery and Printing Works, Cathedral Street, Glasgow This was a large complex founded by William Collins and Co, in an island site, which was eventually completely covered with buildings of various dates. This one was built inside the complex and was until c1970 obscured by a tenement. This view shows a three-storey and attic building at the west end of the site. Its red and white brick construction is typical of many late 19th century industrial buildings. Collins became one of the foremost British book publishing houses, abandoning their stationery interests. In the early 1970s they left the Herriot Hill site, and moved to an existing printing works at Bishopbriggs. Most of this works has been demolished. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
