Scope and Content Plate bending rolls, Inshaw's tube works, Budhill Road Shettleston, Lanarkshire This works made tubes and manipulated them. This machine had been used for bending plates to make large-diameter tubes, but had been removed from its working location by 1977. This view shows the machine from the driving end. An electric motor would have driven the gearwheel on the right. The machine has four long rollers, three of which bend steel plate inserted between the top roller and the other two. The fourth roller, seen here in front of the other two, was used to bend the edges of the plate so that it had a smooth curve when rolled, This was a patent of the makers, Craig and Donald of Johnstone. This machine is now preserved. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
