Scope and Content Upper Mill, Barry, Angus This was a water-powered corn mill, rebuilt in the late 19th century. It is on an L-plan, with a D-plan kiln. It has two pairs of stones, and is driven by an overshot waterwheel 0.96 by 4.77m in a lean-to wheelhouse. This view shows the mill from the north west, with the lade in the left foreground, and the wooden launder linking it to the wheelhouse on the gable. The kiln is at the other end of the main range, with a white cap to its swivelling ventilator. This mill was still in commercial use in 1976, making oatmeal. It has since been taken over by the National Trust for Scotland, and adapted to receive visitors. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
