Scope and Content Mill of Sandhaven, Sandhaven, Aberdeenshire This was a two-storey and attic water-powered meal mill on an L-plan. with two pairs of stones which were electrically driven in 1976. The waterwheel, the skeleton of which survived, was overshot, and about 0.6 by 3m. This view shows the waterwheel from the north east. Note that the end of the wooden launder taking the water to the wheel has a curved end to guide the stream of water into the buckets, a feature characteristic of north-east Scotland. The mill was still making oatmeal in 1976, and still using the kiln. It has since closed, but has been retained as a preserved example of a very typical Aberdeenshire mill.
