Date 21/8/1976

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 507682

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Strichen Mill, Aberdeenshire This was a water-powered corn mill which provided meal for the planned village of Strichen. It was a two-storey rubble building on an L-plan, with a large kiln. It was disused in 1976. This view shows the mill from the south, with the kiln prominent. The tall ventilator with the louvred top is a 20th century alteration. The scale of the mill reflects its position as a town mill, serving a sizeable community. Since 1976 the building has, like many other watermills, been converted into a dwelling house. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
