Scope and Content Lochearnhead and Glen Ogle The area of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park contains a rich variety of archaeological sites and historic landscapes, which continue to have a major impact on the environment today. The village of Lochearnhead sits at the foot of Glen Ogle, through which runs the military road from Stirling to Fort William (built 1749, and just visible to the left of the modern road) and to the left of that the Callander and Oban Railway (1870). Glen Ogle has long been one of the most important routes from Stirling, Perth and the Forth valley to Fort William and the western highlands. The defunct railway line has recently found a new purpose as a popular cycle route. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
