Scope and Content Mill of Aden, Aberdeenshire This was a remarkable survival in the 1970s.a water-powered textile mill. Founded in 1789 as a flax mill, it was rebuilt as a woollen mill in 1868, with four mules, carding machinery, and looms, driven by a low-breast waterwheel 1.95 by 4.87m. This view shows the waterwheel, which was in motion when the photograph was taken. It was made in 1868, and was originally fitted with wooden paddles. The metal ones were installed in 1912. This mill was operated in association with a woollen mill in Peterhead. Until the 1960s the owners also ran a waulk mill at Quartalehouse to finish cloth made at Mill of Aden.
