Scope and Content Tipperty Tile Works, Aberdeenshire This was one the last drainage-tile works in Scotland. It was founded before 1860, but largely re-equipped in the early 20th century. It had four round downdraught kilns, enclosed in a brick building. This view shows the clay-pit end of the cable-worked railway to the works An empty wagon is being pushed along the temporary tracks leading to the working face of the pit, where it will be loaded by an excavator. The works closed in 1980, and most of the buildings demolished. The 0.60m-gauge cable-worked railway linking it to the clay pit was powered by a Ruston and Hornsby horizontal diesel engine.
