Scope and Content Gourdon Harbour, Kincardineshire Gourdon Harbour is a complex one. The oldest part, to the north, is formed by two rubble piers, the northern one extended c1880 when a south breakwater pier and a central pier were added to form a basin with gates which could be closed in storms. This view shows the small old north harbour, used by small inshore boats as seen here. The concrete extension to the north pier and the new concrete south breakwater pier can be seen in the background. In 1976 Gourdon was still extensively used by smaller fishing boats, using seine nets to catch white fish and pots to catch lobsters and crabs. The former trade has declined, partly as a consequence of the imposition of fishing quotas. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
