Scope and Content Linen factory, Myre Road, Forfar, Angus This was a large linen factory, well laid out, with a strip of garden ground separating it from its access road. The main block was a three storey, 20 bay block with a tall enginehouse to the rear, and a circular-section boilerhouse chimney. This view shows the main range from the south. Note the iron railings and the trees which are part of the garden along the front of the factory. The top of the boilerhouse chimney can be seen on the left. Forfar was second only to Dundee as a centre of the linen trade in the later 19th century. This was the largest of the factories, with one and two-storey ranges as well as the block seen here. In 1976 it belonged to Forfar Fabrics Ltd; it has now closed. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
