Scope and Content St Margaret's Parish Church (formerly Restalrig Parish Church), Restalrig, Edinburgh The parish church at Restalrig has an ancient history dating back to the 12th century. The present church dates from the 15th century, and was carefully restored by the architect, William Burn, in 1836. In 1992 it was renamed St Margaret's Church. The church, with a minimum of 15th-century details, is rectangular and plain, and has a central bellcote above its entrance to the west. To the south-west is St Triduana's Chapel, a hexagonal building with a conical roof topped by a statue of the saint. The 15th-century church was made collegiate by King James III. After the Reformation it was singled out for zealous treatment by reformers who were instructed that it was to be 'casten doun and destroyed'. It lay desolate until it was restored in 1836.
