Bridge of Allan, Station Road, Inverallan Mill View from N showing waterwheel and sluice

Description Bridge of Allan, Station Road, Inverallan Mill View from N showing waterwheel and sluice

Date 15/8/1976

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 502540

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Inverallan Mill, Bridge of Allan, Stirlingshire This was a water-powered corn miill on an L-plan, with a kiln in a lower piend-roofed wing. It was driven by a low-breast waterwheel 1.15 by 4.50m, and had three pairs of stones. This view shows the waterwheel and sluice as restored in the early 1970s. The wheel has cast iron axle, hubs and rings, and wooden spokes and paddles. The restoration was very well executed. The mill was converted to a shop in the early 1970s, retaining two of the three pairs of stones, and restoring the waterwheel and sluices. The building has since been adapted again as offices.
