New Bridge of Avon View showing centring for new bridge

SC 501726

Description New Bridge of Avon View showing centring for new bridge

Date 9/6/1976

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 501726

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Centring New Bridge, Dalnashaugh, Banffshire In 1976 a twisting section of the A95 road from Grantown on Spey to Keith, including the Bridge of Avon, was being bypassed. A new high-level steel and concrete bridge over the Avon was part of the project; this steelwork gave support during construction. This view shows the steel girder frame on top of which the deck of the new bridge was assembled. When the new structure was complete this steelwork was removed. A temporary footbridge can also be seen. This steel lacework is the descendant of the timber centring built to support masonry arches during construction. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
