Scope and Content Limekiln, Badenyon, Aberdeenshire This is a drystone rubble limekiln of unusual design. The D-plan body of the kiln is orthodox, but the rubble wing walls/buttresses flanking the corbelled drawhole are very unusual. They appear to be an integral part of the design. This view shows the front of the kiln, which appears to stand to its full height. The neatness of the construction is notable. The small hole above the lintel is probably to allow steam to escape from the kiln lining. This type of kiln is common in upland Perthshire and Aberdeenshire, This is one of several in this upland parish, and the most elaborate. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
