Scope and Content Suspension footbridge, Polhollick, Aberdeenshire This suspension footbridge across the river Dee was built by James Abernethy and Co, Aberdeen. It is a steel bridge, with a light truss deck suspended from wire-rope cables supported on lattice-girder pylons. It was built for use by fishers. This view shows the bridge from the north east. The lightweight construction is clear. Note the links between the cables, which help to prevent the bridge from swaying. This bridge is one of three similar structures built by Abernethys over the Dee; there is a fourth over the Spey at Aberlour. This one and one at Cambus o' May were presented by Mr Alexander Gordon, Southwood, Hildenborough, Kent. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
