Scope and Content Park Bridge, Aberdeenshire This two-span cast-iron bridge was built over the river Dee by the Deeside Railway shortly after the opening of their line from Aberdeen to Banchory, to give access from the south side of the Dee to their station at Park. This view shows the bridge from the south east. Note the lightness of the construction, with pairs of cast iron ribs supporting a timber deck, and granite abutments and pier. The designer was John Willet and the ironwork was by James Abernethy and Co. The lightness of the construction is due to the use for which it was designed. It was intended for used by private carriages, horse buses and light horse vans, and was a toll bridge, so that its use could be supervised. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
