Scope and Content Chimney of farm boilerhouse, Mains of Taymouth, Kenmore, Perthshire This highly ornamental chimney was associated with a boilerhouse which supplied steam to an engine driving a threshing machine in the adjacent barn, which was part of the home farm of Taymouth Castle, home of the Marquess of Breadalbane. This view shows the complex from the north west. The single-storey building at the base of the chimney housed the engine and boiler, and the taller building to the left was the threshing barn. Corn to be threshed could be loaded at mill level. The ornamental character of these buildings is due to the desire for display of the Breadalbanes, who hoped to be made dukes. The were forced to sell up in the 1920s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
