Scope and Content View from north of main south room, Lismohr, No 11 Easter Belmont Road, Edinburgh Designed in c.1935, Lismohr is a single-and two-storeyed villa in the International Modern style. It was designed by architects Kininmouth & Spence for Dr John King, and extended by Morris & Steedman. It is built of rendered brick with a flat roof. This photograph shows the main living room of the villa with its steel-framed bow-window, which lets the sun stream into the room. There are curved, fitted benches under the windows, and a simple fireplace. The floorboards are of polished wood. Large, sunny rooms with clean lines, and filled with simple, elegant furniture are the epitome of 1930s Art Deco design. They would have seemed very fresh and new, perhaps even shocking when they were first built. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
