Scope and Content Pier, Ullapool Ullapool was established as a fishing station by the British Fishery Society in 1788,This large rubble warehouse on the waterfront beside the original pier was probably built as a curing store. This view shows the building from the east. Its scale indicates the extent of the trade for which it was provided. It is one of the largest structure of its kind in Scotland. Ullapool has since 1973 been the mainland end of the vehicular ferry service to Stornoway. This warehouse has been converted into a terminal facility for passengers on this route, though the building has been shortened. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
