Scope and Content Former gas works, Aberfeldy, Perthshire This was built as a small coal-gas works to supply the town of Aberfeldy, and was probably constructed under the auspices of the Breadalbane Estate, as no Act of Parliament seems to have been obtained. This view shows the buildings of the works, with the manager's house on the right, and the retort-house with its castellated chimney in the centre. The works had been closed for some time by 1976, but the buildings were substantially intact. Such small gas works were part of the infrastructure of towns and villages throughout Scotland until the 1950s and 60s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
