Description Spean Bridge Station View from E showing ENE and SSE fronts

Date 31/5/1976

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 498738

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Spean Bridge Station, Inverness-shire This is a two platform through station on the West Highland Railway, situated on a passing loop. It is unusual for that line in having separate platforms, the main single-storey building is on the Glasgow-bound platform. This view shows the main building from the south east. It is a single-sided version of the standard West Highland station building, with its double-pitched roof and prominent eaves. This building was converted in the early 1990s into a restaurant, with extensions to the rear. The station was for a time the junction for the Invergarry and Fort Augustus Railway, which had its own wooden booking office. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
