Scope and Content Limeworks, Ard Neackie, Loch Erribol, Sutherland, Highland This limeworks was constructed as part of the Sutherland Estate improvements of the mid 19th century. It is situated on a peninsula projecting into Loch Erribol, and has a bank of four single-draw kilns, and pier for importing fuel and exporting lime. This view shows the quarry that suuplied limestone to the kilns, now partly flooded. The lime made here was mainly for agricultural purposes, and was distributed mainly by sea. There was another limeworks on Eilean Choraidh, in the middle of Loch Erribol. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
