Scope and Content Former water-powered corn mill, Balnakeil, Highland This was a water-powered corn mill on a rectangular plan with a single pair of stones, powered by a high-breast waterwheel about 0.9 by 3.1m., now removed. The mill is built into a hillside. All its machinery has been removed. This view shows the mill from the north west. The wheel gable is on the left with the axle hole visible at the base of the wall. The remains of the kiln ventilator can be seen at the far end of the roof. Mills of this type are characteristic of the north west highlands, with their relatively sparse populations and poor communications. This one is unusual in retaining its roof.
