Scope and Content Iron bridge, Auchindrean, Highland This is an unusual wrought-iron estate bridge, probably designed by Sir John Fowler, on whose estate it stands. It has a single span, with a lens-shaped truss, and a timber deck. The truss ends are supported on cylindrical piers with corbelled caps. This view shows the bridge from the north east, looking towards Auchindrean Farm to which it was designed to give access. The double curves of the two trusses can be seen, as can the way in which the truss ends are supported by the piers. Sir John Fowler was a noted civil engineer, who was later one of the designers of the Forth Bridge. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
