Scope and Content Clapper bridge, Aultbea, Highland This is a good and unusually long example of a clapper bridge, with seven short spans made by placing stone slabs as lintels over the openings between rubble piers. This on has low rubble parapets. This view shows the bridge from the downstream side. Note the unequal sizes of the openings, probably reflecting the sizes of slab available for its construction. This bridge has been repaired, and its appearance somewhat regularised, since 1976. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
