Scope and Content Kerry Falls hydro-electric power station, Gairloch This is one of the small, isolated hydro-electric power stations built by the North of Scotland Hydro-electric Board to use local resources to meet local needs. This one uses the water of the Kerrry Falls to supply demand in the Gairloch area. This view shows the power station, which has a generating capacity of 1.25 megawatts. The walls of the station are of concrete, but are covered with consciously random rubble. This, and the pitched slate roof, were intended to reduce its visual impact. Much of the work of the North of Scotland Hydro-electric Board involved large, complex, capital projects, but they also built a number of small schemes like this to serve local concentrations of population.
