Scope and Content Plockton Station, Highland This station was opened in 1897 as part of the extension of the Dingwall and Skye Railway from Strome Ferry to Kyle of Lochalsh. It is a simple single-platform station, with a large wooden office building. This view shows the station from the platform side. The building is on an L-plan, with vertical timber boarding of standard Highland Railway pattern. The awning, in the angle of the L, is supported on cast iron columns. The extension from Strome Ferry was built to counter the North British Railways schemes to extend the West Highland Railway to a new railhead on the west coast. Plockton is the largest settlement on the route. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
