Description Duirinish Station Platform view

Date 21/5/1976

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 495022

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Duirinish Station, Highland This station was opened in 1897 as part of the extension of the Dingwall and Skye Railway from Strome Ferry to Kyle of Lochalsh. It is a simple single-platform station, with a wooden platform shelter. This view shows the station from the platform side, illustrating the simplicity of the building. The two chimney stacks at the rear are neatly built of masonry, carried down to foundation level. The extension from Strome Ferry was built to counter the North British Railways schemes to extend the West Highland Railway to a new railhead on the west coast. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
