Scope and Content Blackpots Brick and Tile Works, Banffshire This works appears to have been constructed to make drainage and roofing tiles. It had its own harbour for importing coal and shipping tiles coastwise. It had a single rectangular downdraught kiln and a T-plan moulding and drying shed. This view shows the downdraught kiln inside its enclosing stone wall. The kiln was unusual in having a stone core, and was probably adapted from an updraught kiln. The drying shed is on the right. This works was in use until the early 1970s, but by 1976 it was becoming derelict, and it has since been demolished. It was recorded in detail by the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
