Scope and Content Suspension footbridge, Elvanfoot, Lanarkshire This is a wire-rope suspension footbridge, with a stiffened deck, a type of bridge developed in the late 19th century, when wire ropes came into general use. This one spans the river Clyde. This view shows the bridge from the east. The lattice-girder pylons are typical of the type, as is the light truss span. The manufacturer of this bridge is not known. The design is comparable with the work of Aberdeen makers at that period, but lacks their refinement. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
