Scope and Content Priorsford Suspension Bridge, Peebles, Peebles-shire This is a wire-rope suspension footbridge, with a stiffened deck, a type of bridge developed in the late 19th century, when wire ropes came into general use. This one spans the river Tweed within a public park. This view shows the bridge from the south. The lattice-girder pylons are typical of the type, but the lattice-girder sides of the footway and its pronounced camber are both unusual. Lattice-girder footbridges were popular in the Borders. In this case the suspension cables seem to have been added to make a larger span possible. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
