Scope and Content Wilderbak Mill, Galashiels, Selkirkshire This complex was built between 1862 and 1890 as an integrated worsted-spinning and weaving mill, for William Brown and Sons. It was on a compact site, with a five-storey spinning block, and was originally steam-powered. This view shows the complex from the south east, with the spinning block on the left, and the tall brick boiler-house chimney. The office block on the right was built in 1883. This mill was built when demand for Scotch tweeds was expanding. It was one of the earliest steam mills in Galashiels. It operated until c1970, and was being demolished in 1976.
