Scope and Content Neist Point Lighthouse pier, Skye This lighthouse was designed by D Alan Stevenson for the Northern Lighthouse Board, and is on a promontory on the west coast of Skye. It has a short circular-section tower, flat-roofed keepers' houses and engine room, and a foghorn. This view shows the lighthouse pier with its light hand crane, The stairs lead to an upper platform on which there is a heavier crane. A geently sloping path leads from that platform to the lighthouse. This lighthouse was designed to be serviced by sea, and it is provided with a mass concrete pier and cranes. It was also linked with the public road by an aerial ropeway. It is now automated. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
