Description Skye, Corry, Corry Lodge Steading. General View.

Date 19/5/1976

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 494152

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Former distillery, incorporated into present Corry Lodge, Broadford, Skye (Highland council area) This was a Highland Malt Whisky Distillery, founded by Lachlan McKinnon under the provisions of the Small Stills Act of 1816, and known as Corry Distillery. It closed in 1826. This view shows the remains of the distillery buildings from the south east. The exact function of the surviving buildings is not clear, but it looks as if the remains give a good impression of the scale of the complete distillery. These remains are of importance as survivors from the early 19th century beginnings of the modern malt whisky distilling industry. Site subsequently reused for various functions Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
