Scope and Content Reinforced-concrete bridge, Dornie This bridge was built to replace a ferry crossing formed as part of Telford's Highland Roads and Bridges improvement scheme of the early 19th century, It was of the beam and post type, with 14 fixed spans, and an opening steel span for shipping. This view shows the bridge from the south west, illustrating its slender construction, and showing the opening span towards the centre of the bridge. In the foreground is the ramped pier which was the western terminal of the ferry to Dornie. This bridge was bypassed in the late 1980s, and dismantled in 1991. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
