Scope and Content Glenlochy Distillery, Fort William, Inverness-shire This is a Highland Malt Whisky distillery, built at the height of the 1890s whisky boom. It was closed for most of the interwar period, but reopened in 1937-8. It was acquired in 1953 by The Distillers' Company Ltd. This view shows the distillery from the south, with the office and malt kiln on the left, and the stillhouse and related buildings on the right. The buildings are, unusually, built of brick. Malting stopped here in 1968, and the distillery closed in 1983, though the buildings remain largely intact. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
