Scope and Content Bridge of Orchy Station, Argyll This station was opened in 1894 by the West Highland Railway, and is of that company's standard type, with an island platform in a passing loop, the platform being approached by a concrete-lined subway. The station building is of brick and timber. This view shows the station building from the north. The broad eaves and glazed end screens provide some protection from the weather in this exposed situation. The vehicle on the track was an inspection trolley. When new, the stations on this line were described as being in the style of a Swiss chalet, and the walls above the brick base were covered with wooden shingles in a fish-scale pattern. These stations are now unmanned. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
